As part of its ongoing commitment to providing excellence every day, York-based Excel Learning Trust has laid out its promise to vulnerable pupils and their families.
Excel Learning Trust, which comprises seven schools across York, has laid out its plans for making sure that no child slips through the net and that pupils have access to the best education possible, alongside a wealth of additional opportunities which will enhance their school experience.
In the promise, The Trust states that they will:
- do all they can to help pupils to read accurately and speedily so that they are able to access their learning.
- ensure that all pupils access the Personal Development curriculum, including wider opportunities, to enhance their school experience as much as possible.
- ensure that, where needed, every child has a mentor.
- ensure that all staff are trained in emotion coaching and take this approach with every child.
- ensure, through our adaptive teaching approach, that instructions are personalised to give the best learning experience.
- ensure that every child joining Excel Learning Trust (whenever this may be) gets off to a flying start.
- do all they can to ensure that every pupil develops fluency in English and mathematics.
- do all they can to remove financial barriers to every child’s education.
- do all they can to strengthen their connection and partnership with parents.
- do all they can to work with pupils and their families to improve attendance.
In its promise, the Trust also states that “We will ensure and assure our work on this, with open accountability and a shared vision for excellence every day for our most vulnerable pupils.”
CEO of Excel Learning Trust, Mark Hassack, said “As a Trust, we are committed to ensuring that all children experience education excellence every day so that they can achieve the very best outcomes – academically and in their personal development. Through this promise, we are working towards a place where the most vulnerable children in our care will have the provision, support and opportunities that they deserve.
“From the moment a child joins one of our schools, to the time they leave, we are committed to fulfilling our promise. This includes making sure that pupils get off to a flying start when they join Excel Learning Trust, that they are helped to read accurately and speedily, that we do all we can to make sure they are fluent in maths and English and that through our adaptive teaching methods, children’s learning is as personalised as possible.
We also promise to give Excel pupils the opportunity to try new things and get involved in extracurricular activities and trips as well as supporting them through their journey with us.
“Through initiatives such as establishing pre-loved uniform shops at all our schools and ensuring effective funds for student enablement are in place, we will also work towards removing financial barriers to education.
“Whilst some activities and initiatives will take time to embed, we are absolutely committed to this promise.”
