More than one hundred and fifty students from across York-based Excel Learning Trust joined together at York High School on Wednesday 9 July to take part in the Trust’s annual SportsFest.
This festival of sports and fun, which brought together pupils from Year 2 through to Year 10, saw children from Excel’s schools congregate to collaborate and engage in a range of sports and activities.
Pupils from Millthorpe School, York High School, Carr Junior School, Inspire and Knavesmire, Scarcroft and Woodthorpe primaries took part in archery, boccia, orienteering, an inflatable obstacle course and an Ultimate Warrior challenge. Event sponsors York Mix were on hand to support the event, filling it with energy and great music.
The event culminated in a mass sponsored Fun Run, during which the children wore fun accessories, racing to raise money for the UNICEF charity. Prior to the event pupils were given a choice of three charities and voted unanimously to raise money for UNICEF.
Event organiser Clare Hardy said: “We’ve had such a brilliant day at SportsFest! The children have left having met new friends from across the Trust, been part of a team and supporting each other, whilst raising money for a great cause. They have all participated in a sport or event that they haven’t tried before and can all feel proud of themselves as an active and sporty member of our Trust community!”
Chief Executive of Excel Learning Trust, Mark Hassack said “At Excel, we want to give our children a wealth of opportunities to help them achieve the very best outcomes – both academically and in their personal development. SportsFest provides a perfect platform for personal development and for our Trust schools to come together for an active afternoon of fun and sport. Thank you to everyone who made the event possible.”
Excel Learning Trust is made up of a group of seven schools – Millthorpe School, York High School, Carr Junior School, Knavesmire, Scarcroft and Woodthorpe Primary Schools and Inspire Academy.
