A new independent special school located in Acomb, York, has been officially registered by the Department for Education following a successful pre-registration inspection by Ofsted.
Inspire Academy in Acomb is now preparing to open its doors to students aged 11 to 16 from across the city of York, with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs and other special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND).
Inspire Academy, which is part of York-based Excel Learning Trust, will offer high-quality, personalised education for up to 40 pupils. The school’s curriculum is designed to be ambitious, inclusive, and responsive to individual needs, preparing students for GCSE qualifications and life beyond school.
The Ofsted inspection, which took place in June, praised the school’s broad and well-sequenced curriculum, robust safeguarding systems, and strong emphasis on pupils’ personal development, including their spiritual, moral, social and cultural growth. Inspectors confirmed that Inspire Academy is “likely to meet all the independent school standards when it opens.”
Inspire’s Head of School, Rickie Wilson said: “Inspire Academy has been developed with care, vision, and commitment to creating a nurturing and ambitious environment for young people who need it most. We’re thrilled to open up this provision to the York community.”
CEO of Excel Learning Trust, Mark Hassack, added: “We are proud to expand our family of schools with Inspire Academy. This school represents our dedication to inclusive education and supporting every learner’s potential. With experienced, fully trained staff, dedicated facilities, and a focus on wellbeing and achievement, Inspire is set to become a valuable addition to specialist education in the region.”
Inspire Academy is situated at Cornlands Road, Acomb, and will begin welcoming pupils in the upcoming autumn term.
