Dr Alison Birkinshaw OBE

Prior to retiring in 2018, Alison was the Principal of York College since. She joined the college in 2008 guiding it to an “Outstanding” judgement from Ofsted in 2014. She was awarded an OBE for services to higher education in 2012. She was previously Principal of Nelson & Colne College.

Alison has significant experience of corporate governance through her previous roles as Principal. She has also served as Chair of Higher York Partnership, a partnership of HE providers in York, and will serve on the Finance and Audit Committee of the Joseph Rowntree Foundation (a charity).
