Emad Elkhashen

Dr Emad Elkhashen has over 15 years of experience in higher education and holds a Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD in Accounting, with a research focus on corporate governance, sustainability, and social responsibility. He is a Lecturer in Accounting and Finance at the University of York, teaching and supervising at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including PhD supervision. Emad has served as an external examiner for PhD vivas and has supervised more than 50 MSc dissertations across the Universities of York, Warwick, and Leicester, many focused on corporate governance and related areas.

He has developed and taught a wide range of accounting and finance-related modules—across several institutions—including Financial Accounting, Management Accounting, Auditing, Corporate Governance, and Ethics and Sustainability Reporting. In designing and delivering modules, Emad embeds ethics and sustainability elements throughout, with a strong focus on preparing students to understand their responsibilities to society and the environment. This approach aligns closely with the mission of the School for Business and Society, where he contributes to shaping future business leaders with a commitment to responsible and sustainable practice. He is also a Fellow of Advance HE (formerly the Higher Education Academy), recognising his commitment to teaching excellence in higher education.

Emad acts as an external examiner for several Master’s programmes at Russell Group universities including the Universities of Southampton and Glasgow. His wider academic work includes reviews for Pearson accounting textbooks, specially case studies, and serving as a peer reviewer for numerous academic journals. He has held several academic leadership roles, including programme leadership and serving as Graduate Teaching Assistant Director at the University of York’s School for Business and Society, where he led recruitment, training, performance management, and professional development. He was also a member of the University’s Standing Academic Misconduct Panel.  

Emad lives in York and has two children attending Woodthorpe School, and is excited to contribute to the continued growth and success of Excel Learning Trust.
